Shed and Suunto

Suunto watches reach Shed through Apple Health, the same as every other non-Apple device. Runs come across complete; sessions do not go back the other way.

What comes across

  • Runs. Distance, pace, splits, heart rate series and route.
  • Resting heart rate and HRV. Where you wear the watch overnight and Suunto writes them to Health.
  • Sleep. Duration as Suunto records it.
  • History. Backfilled on first connect.

Turning on Suunto to Apple Health

  1. 1

Open the Suunto app on your iPhone

    Settings, then Apple Health.

  2. 2

    Allow writing

Enable workouts and heart rate, plus sleep if you wear the watch overnight.

  3. 3

    Grant Shed read access

Approve workouts, heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV and sleep.

Trail and vertical

Suunto skews toward trail and mountain runners, which is worth flagging honestly. Shed builds road race blocks from 5K to the marathon and prescribes in pace. It does not currently plan by vertical gain, grade-adjusted pace, or the specific demands of a mountain ultra.

Your trail runs still come in and still count as training load, and the coach reads them. But if your target race is a vertical kilometre or a 100 mile mountain event, Shed is not built for it and you should know that before subscribing.

Frequently asked

Does Shed work with Suunto?
Yes for reading your runs through Apple Health. No for sending workouts to the watch.
Does Shed handle trail running?
Trail runs come in and count as training load. Shed does not plan by vertical gain or grade-adjusted pace, and it does not build ultra or mountain race blocks.
What race distances does Shed cover?
5K through the marathon, on the road. Ultras and trail-specific events are outside what it builds.

Two taps to connect

If it writes to Apple Health, Shed reads it.

Grant Health access once and your runs arrive on their own, from whatever you already wear. Shed grounds your paces in what you actually ran, not one race result, and writes the block around it.
